The Trubey’s have love for Ronald McDonald Houses and all that they offer! The House became a home to this family of eight in July while four month old Emmilou was admitted for cystic fibrosis testing. One of the many realizations families face while navigating the medical world is that life outside goes on. It was important to the Trubey’s that they were able to continue to provide a sense of consistency and stability for their other 5 children. Finding a quiet space within the 57,000 square foot House for dad, Rusty, to continue to homeschool his children was no problem! There are many quiet spaces in the House such as the library and living rooms where kids can spend time and read.  The House allowed consistency and stability for the family when they needed it most. The children were able to eat together, sleep together, study together, and grow together which maintained their family unit. “The kids are together all the time. I don’t know what they would do if they couldn’t stay together” says dad.

The Trubey children love the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, and they all have their favorite part. Twelve year old Zoe is the oldest child and likes how close the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware is to Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. Jonah, who is 10, says that the beds here are very comfortable. He also likes playing Xbox in the teen room. Seven year old Ezra’s favorite part is the delicious food cooked every night for dinner by our wonderful volunteers. Lena, who is 6, shared that her favorite part about the House is the movie theater, which the family has utilized many times. Ephraim, who just turned 4, loves to run around in the romper room and play with all of the toys. Dad also has a favorite part of the House, which is our sunroom. He loves to sit in there in the morning and have his coffee and read. Rusty says “with everything going on to have that little bit of relaxation time makes me so happy”.
