When families walk into a Ronald McDonald Family Room, we want them to forget they’re in a hospital. Often steps away from a pediatric or intensive care unit, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms offer families a place to rest and regroup right at the hospital, just moments away from their sick child.
A statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics emphasizes the effects of family presence during a child’s hospital stay. Both children and parents showed lower levels of stress.
Our Family Rooms at two Delaware hospitals provide support for families so that they can be with their children.

Coming Soon! The Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Women and Children’s Center at Christiana Care’s Newark Campus is located on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and open, when volunteers are present, to all families welcoming a newborn receiving care in the unit. The room provides families a place of respite and offers services including snacks, coffee, and a reading nook for families with young siblings to enjoy. A monthly dinner for families is provided by generous donations from the community.
The hospitality of the room will be extended to other waiting areas in the center with the Cart with a Heart program, offering complimentary snacks and coffee during the wait for a loved one receiving care. Christiana Care’s Center for Women & Children is located in a new 400,00 square foot building that features the most up-to-date evidence-based models of care. The Center delivers more than 6,000 babies each year, making it a leading provider of maternity care in the region.
