Anthony Smith is a husband, father, military veteran, and current police officer with the City of Dover Police Department, where his primary position is the Police Athletic League Coordinator. This position allows Anthony to work directly with the youth members and students of the community while providing educational and recreational programs. In addition to training, mentoring, and educating children through the police athletic league, Anthony Smith is also a police instructor for the Dover Municipal Police Academy. While in the police academy, he instructs cadets in effective public and impromptu speaking and essential communication skills for maintaining good community relations.
Anthony recently completed all his requirements for graduation and will soon earn his degree in the Administration of Justice Program with a Master of Science and a concentration in Homeland Security. Anthony is currently looking forward to pursuing his doctorate upon graduation from the Wilmington University Master’s program. Anthony continues to inspire those around him to challenge themselves for continued education and being the best version of themselves.
Anthony’s motivation and drive is gained through the unconditional love from his family. The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware made it possible to support Anthony and his family during a tough transition which involved Anthony’s daughter Anaiya, who suffered from a rare heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot. This heart condition required Anaiya to have two open-heart surgeries: One surgery when she was born and one surgery when she was 17 years old.
Upon conclusion of both Anaiya’s heart surgeries, Anthony and his family were able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House and rest during her recovery while in the hospital. Their visit was welcomed each day with encouragement and positivity by incredible staff members.
Anthony later decided to do whatever he could by being a part of the Ronald McDonald House Family. Anthony along with his fellow police officer friends would dress in costumes and come visit the house during Halloween and make toy donations along with other things. Anthony shared his story to the world during the Ronald McDonald Telethon held in Philadelphia and has even partnered with the Ronald McDonald House to do a “Childhood Cancer 5k” in the future.
Anthony has an enormous desire to be a part of the Ronald McDonald House team and continue to make a difference in the lives of so many people.
